Whether it’s food, drink or entertainment we have it all at The Dirty Onion. Home to two bars, one restaurant and one of the biggest beer gardens in Belfast, we are sure to keep you entertained all year round.

We offer entertainment 7 nights a week, with a strong focus on authentic traditional Irish music. Oh, and we are free entry every night!

A strong partnership with local Irish music school An Droichead has helped us bring together a fantastic arrangement of Irish music.Contemporary live bands and acoustic acts also offer fantastic additional entertainment at the weekends.

Ciorcal Comhra (Music and Irish Conversation Circle)

We welcome those who wish to speak the Irish language to converse together every Monday night. It can also be an opportunity for those who are learning to speak with others and improve their language skills. We combine this with some traditional Irish music by the fire.



Bodhrán lessons

Would you like to learn how to play a traditional Irish instrument? The bodhran is the original Irish drum and is the heartbeat of traditional Irish music. Learn to play with us every Tuesday - lessons are free and bodhrans are provided.



Harp and Trad Session with Ciara Ní Thath and Friends

Ciara Ni Thath is one of Northern Ireland’s most talented harpists. Enjoy Ciara’s classical Irish melodies, blended with other trad instruments to deliver an entertaining collaborative sound every Wednesday



Live Bluegrass Session with The Broken String Band

Whether it’s foot tapping or a good proper jig you’re after, The Broken String Band are a fantastic 5-piece bluegrass band sure to get you going. They perform a mix of old and contemporary songs strongly influenced by Irish and American folk music…..yeeeehaaawwwww!!

Matty Rea 5pm-8pm - Matty brings a mix of contemporary songs ranging in style and tempo. Always gets you in the mood for the weekend

Trad sessions / Matt Jones / Live band

We’ve got entertainment day and night at the Onion every Saturday with Trad Sessions from 2pm - 4pm & 8pm - 11pm by the fireside.

Matt Jones 5pm-8pm: Matt is an excellent guitarist and vocalist who brings a unique and entertaining arrangement of contemporary songs.

Nathan O’Regan 8.30pm-10.30pm - Nathan is steeped in music tradition. With a voice as gritty as it is delicate.

Live Band 11pm-1am - Every Saturday Yardbird Unplucked presents our resident band Drum & Bates

St Paddy’s Day at The Dirty Onion

The Dirty Onion is celebrating St Paddy’s day this year with a bang!

We have some outstanding music performances for you taking place throughout the day. Kicking off the day’s entertainment is Matty Rea at 12pm outside on the main stage and at 1pm inside the bar next to the cosy fire we’ve a monstrous traditional session playing right through until 11pm!

The pints will be flowing, and the banter will be merry! There is no other place to be this St Paddy’s Day than here at The Dirty Onion. BBQ all day from 12pm

Pooch Social

Our first Pooch Social event of 2018 is taking place Sunday March 25th!

Come join us for an afternoon of live music, BBQ and doggy fair, selling locally produced food and accessories for your dog. Your furry friends are welcome, so you can enjoy the event with your doggo!

Live music throughout the day and into the evening.

Event in aid of Lucy’s Trust dog charity who help re-home unwanted dogs. We are dedicating all our fundraising efforts to this charity and with your help we hope we can help raise some much-needed funds to care for more dogs.
