ABOUT THE DIRTY ONION
The Dirty Onion welcomes you to one of Belfast’s oldest buildings, reintroduced as an authentic Irish pub with a modern twist.
Home to one of Belfast’s biggest beer gardens and a cozy peat fire inside, we’ve got you covered all year round. And bonus points- we’re dog friendly too!
Entertainment is provided 7 nights a week including some of the best local bands in town.
Oh and if you like craft beer, whiskey or chicken, you’ve come to the right place….
STEEPED IN HISTORY
The site was originally constructed in 1680 and is Belfast’s oldest intact timber-framed building. It was formerly used as a warehouse, trading items such as fish, tea, whiskey and much more. It was first used as a bonded spirits warehouse in 1921; the bond, known as Stack “N” (the N refers to North, a nod to the north side of Waring Street, number 42) was operated by Edward Dillon Bonders, until the company moved to larger premises in 1991.
Stack “N” was used to store Jameson whiskey in barrels and crates, and during this period tens of thousands of Jameson bottles passed through these doors. You may have noticed our Jameson Barrelman statue in our beer garden, which was built to honour our building’s history.

LET US ENTERTAIN YOU
Every Saturday night we turn the restaurant into a live music venue after service. Yardbird Unplucked brings you the best local bands and lets you finish your Saturday night off in style. Unfortunately, at this time, Yardbird is not offering live entertainment but we hope to reinstate this later in the year. However, The Dirty Onion does have entertainment scheduled every day of the week and you can see the line-up by clicking the link below.
